My grandson is going to be making his third quilt. He asked if there was a way to not bind it. He will be using this method after he makes his quilt top. Then we will set it up on the long arm for him to quilt. At eleven he started quilting in April of this year.
“ I don’t know why you keep coming back, I really don’t “ I was rolling. I have made several quick quilts just like that. Even with a patchwork or pieces top. I hate binding. It hates me too. The bound quilt looks better but for your grandson to love his quilt and drag it around with him, it’s perfect I love the bloopers at The end of the videos. Seriously. I laugh out loud. I talk to myself too. Quilting is so isolating…. Who cares. Enjoy the process. Keep them coming. 💜
You are SO right!! I keep coming back because I feel like I have a much-needed, very special friend with just the sweetest personality ever. Keep those videos coming!
Such a fun tutorial. We keep coming back because you’re about as real as they come Miss Tracy. 🤣🤣 bloopers were fantastic. Thanks for the chuckles…needed a break from cuttin fabric and this was just what the back needed. Enjoy that chair! Looks super comfy…the massage settings are an even bigger bonus! 🤗🤗
You mentioned your grandma.....I called my granny, i dearly loved her & i still miss her. She passed in the late '80's. At the time I was closer to her than my mom. She was 1 of a kind that touched the heart of those she met! You ave fun & that's what's important!
Thank you for this tutorial. I have soooo much flannel fabric and needed this quicker way to use it than having to cut it up for rag quilts. I have made some baby blankets with some but wanted to go beyond the baby stage. So far I have only birthed my quilts because binding intimidates me. I’ll get there one day.
After the birthing at 16:34 you totally blend into your quilt, 🤣 like camouflage 😂 I thought you were gone for a hot minute😂. Love your little art the end, he’s growing up so fast.
Thanks for taking the chance and making this quilt. This is a game changer for me! I’ll be using this trick for charity quilts and this technique will increase the number I can make. Thanks again.
❤😊 Honestly Tracy Ur A Joy, Gift to watch and Enjoying Every One U Creating!! Grandson will Appreciate it and feel Ur Warmth Every time Using ❤😊 Keep Rocking Life Beautifully and Creating Beauties ❤😊 We Watch because U tell t Like it is, Honestly and Joyfully ❤😊
I need to see how you hang up a large quilt while you free motion it. I looked through several of your past tutorials and couldn't find it. I love your blanket for your grandson. Your chair looks really comfortable!
You could try making machine tacks in even patterns on this quilt. If you use yarn to hand tack, he is likely to chew the ends off. This was the way they were making quick baby quilts at the Extension Office the last time I helped. They set up an assembly line; and, 51 baby quilts were made that day. All three of you (your husband, grandson, and you) look so cozy in those new chairs under those quilts. Thank you
We watch you cause you are wonderful and will try anything anyway so we all learn from you and I get it I miss my grandma too so keep sewing there probably watching us and laughing too god bless you just be you x
We keep coming back because you’re amazing Tracy!! you’re so real and funny and so damn cute!! I for one love your videos and I’ve gotten so much from your knowledge. Don’t ever ever change. ❤
When I birthed a quilt the last few times. I basted the opening closed prior to top stitching. I also back stitched the opening. Birthing baby quilts were great for last minute gifts.
You crack me up haha. Love your channel and thank you for being real and authentic and "imperfect" in your genius! Learning so much from you being a beginner quilter.
I love hearing your thought process. I have the same idea of making the quilt so I wouldn’t have to put on binding. Glad you showed it first. Your grandmother was a wise woman; laughing is better for your health and less wrinkles for the skin. Keep showing us your ideas on the videos ❤
Love your channel Tracy and I absolutely love your laugh! That was a fun fast quilt and I am sure that he absolutely loved it. He looks so cute in the chair with his new little ball quilt
I love to watch your videos as you are so cheerful and have great ideas fo quilting and other things. Tracey,, thank you for sharing all of it with us x
My favorite saying from Grandpa was, "People who never do anything never make any mistakes." He was encouraging us to do our best and learn from the experience. Your grandson is a lucky little man. Anything from the heart is a treasure. I come back to your channel is because you are upbeat and fun. 🎶💐💖🫂
Tracy, I have loved your videos from day one and will keep coming back every single time! You are not only smart, informative and a great teacher. But, you are fun and a joy to watch to watch. You put on no airs, you are just yourself and I love it. Thank you and I hope you continue for a long, long time.
Such a fun video to watch! For last Christmas, I made 12 smaller quilts in the same way. However, I didn’t quilt them. Not enough time. I topstitched all the way around three times to at least secure the quilt. Very quick way to make a gift.
Tracy loved the video and I have made several quilts that way but I made mine with mitered corners. I believe that I got the idea from Jan Howell and I have it saved so I can refer back to it. It looks like it has a border with mitered corners. It's not hard to do. I always enjoy watching you see. Happy Quilting ❤❤
I can remember my grandparents phone number too. Both sets of grandparents. My Papaw was my best friend. I have sewn and birthed many baby quilts before. I like to finish them with a flange edge and quilt between that flange.
One of my favorite of your videos ❤❤❤. It worked, but I’d have loved it either way. I’ve been in a sewing slump, I have a new machine that I haven’t even taken out of the box,it has felt so overwhelming. But I have lots of flannel and you have inspired me! Thank you!
Your two things you could try to make that run smoother under your machine get a dollar tree cutting mat and tape it down in front of the needle so your materials running across it or put a plastic wrap down and type it. Both of those would make it smoother or even tissue paper. I hope something like this will help.
@@TheSewingChannel I watched a woman making a quilt and she needed to square it up and all she had was her coffee table to use so she got a framing square no it was a T square it’s about 4 foot tall, and she laid it down on one corner and had a straight edge along the bottom or top with your side she was working on and straightened it up and it worked great and another woman had a 4 foot or 5 foot long metal ruler that she would lay on the table to make sure her stuff was straight not you don’t like if she was sewing strips; she could make sure they were straight if they were like four or five of them in a row. I hope that made sense. I love watching your videos.
I just love your videos! But I thought of some thing when you started” birthing” your quilt. You didn’t trim off the corners so you could get sharper points. love this idea!
I love how slightly uncomfortable you are every time you say "birth" LOL I'm a nurse and when I first started quilting years ago, the other nurses told me to "birth" my baby quilt. I laughed so much the first time I heard the term. Love your quilt
Oh Tracy Tracy Tracy we come back to watch you because you’re funny you’re down to earth and you don’t try to pretend that you’re someone else And of course I think you know by now that I like to tease you So I’m wondering where your Martelli rotary cutter was… Because it looked like you were struggling with that Olfa probably just needed a new blade. And you were not using your electric lift table. I want to get something for my Juki but like you said the table you were using is double in price now I’m going to be doing something similar but I’m going to do a self binding Quilt my neighbor bought two huge pieces of polar fleece and I found a really good video on a super easy way to do the mitered corners so no binding and then it will look like it has a border
I made a California King size quilt with this exact method. I used 2 flat sheets and batting. It's now almost 40 years old.
wow...that's great! I love using sheets in my quilt projects❤️
Wow!

I use to make quilts like that back in the 1980's. I sold them for $25 each. It took e about an hour to make one.
Wow that's awesome!
Equivalent to about $100 in todays $

Love this!!
Round the corners. Looks nice and makes turning easier
We make these with a pocket; called a "quillow"
Buy a lazy susan and cover the top with batting and your fabric.
Great idea!!!!!
We come back because you are awesome. We learn so much from your videos!!
Love it! You two behave in that new chair! 😉
haha🤣
My Gram used to keep a container of pretzels next to the armchair - pretzel? Too funny!
When I use the bag technique I make rounded corners.
You’re so funny I love what you do.great fun thank you
Why do I keep coming back???
It's because you're yourself and you show your true self which is nice to see.
Thank you so much for your support! I appreciate it very much❤️
Love birthing those quilts....saves on binding❤
Right!
You just tickle me with your laugh!! Cute quilt!! ❤❤😊
That 505 stuff is so potent that I can't use it without all my windows open!
I loved tying them
Yay for a new chair!
I just love your videos! But I thought of some thing when you started” birthing” your quilt. You didn’t trim off the corners so you could get sharper points. love this idea!
Yep...I should have...I typically do LOL😂
Love it!
My granddaughter gave one of the quilts I made her to her new kitty. So I made her kitty a quilt of her own 😂
We love you, Tracy. That's why we will continue to return😊
Laughter also burns more calories😍
Cute video adorable grandson
You are fun and so happy
I will diffinitly be making some of these to send to storm victims in North Carolina and Florida Great idea
What a great idea~!!!
Love it
I recently made 2 donation quilts using this method. I prefer binding over the "birthing".
I came back, because you have great ideas
❤❤ your video.
Because we love ya 😂
It will, I have made them this way before
He will love it...

Love your quilt
lol😂
I just got a walking foot as I was told it would make quilting easier. Do you not use one at all?
I typically don't use one🤷🏻♀️
Really funny!
Would a walking foot work to reduce puckers on the side seams? Just a thought (I have the TL-18 too)❤
Yes it may help. Great thinking!
You guys are so cute

Does 505 have an odor? Other sprays I have smell bad and I don’t want that in my baby quilts
Not that I can tell.
How are you adhering these things to your wall?
Cardboard with batting over top of that.
Of course, we keep coming back!!! 😘 LOL!!!
LOLOLOL🤣❤️
I still have our land line. That is the only number I give out I don’t know my cell number because I don’t give it out.
Hi Steve 👋
lol
I prayed for you! I love your laughter and watching you sew 😊 thanks for all the great ideas you give us ❤
The Fancy term for turning inside out...
Invagination - to turn something inside out or fold back into itself
LOLOLOL There is NO way I am going to say that haha 🤣
@@TheSewingChannel quietly, when the camera is off!!!
I don’t know the lingo like turn and burn, birthing etc 🤷🏻♀️
What is 505 a glue?
Fabric spray adhesive.
I do edge first all around
LOL!
question: why didn't you use that $3k iron to steam it out on the wall?
There is cardboard behind my design wall....it may warp the board🤷🏻♀️
I like that chair and am looking for one right now. Does your husband have a twin who is single by chance❓😂
LOLOLOL no twin...😂
Your grandson won't care if the lines are straight or not. The only thing that will bring him joy is that you made the quilt for him.
Right!!!!
